Theology "To the degree we are ignorant of God we misrepresent Him." This statement sums up well much of the problem church faces in our culture.God has revealed Himself through His word and nature therefore, it is incumbent on us to understand Him.
Bible Study Methods This course will provide the tools needed to properly understand the scriptures. More so now than ever, a firm command of Bible knowledge is needed in order to not only stand firm as Christian in all areas of life, but to bring Christian answers to bear on the challenges posed by our culture.
Church History A proper understanding of history is incomplete without an understanding of church history. This study is important for our bearings as God's people. It is in our understanding the events of history that we come into a sense of connectedness to the "big picture" of God's plan for His people. It helps us to maintain our equilibrium as we see the extremes that have transpired in the church's life. D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones noted: "I know of nothing next to the reading of the scriptures themselves that has been of greater value to me in my own personal life and ministry than constant reading of the history of the church." This course will be in three sections, Old Testament, New Testament and modern church history. The Mission of the Church We will look at the mission principles given in the Scriptures and what God has called the Church to be to the world around her.
Comparative Worldviews A worldview is the basis on which we process all the data of life. It is the foundation from which we make our decisions. In this we are surrounded with many worldviews that are incompatible with the Christian worldview. We will explore the basis for these worldviews and how to answer their challenges. + Christian Ethics
One who thinks that issues of right and wrong are things that matter can be counted on, under stress, to be the one who does the right thing. Ethics can be seen as "content of character." Ethics is to consider a person's goals, motives, and standards. Though closely connected to worldview, ethics specifically deals with issues of right and wrong. This course is designed to help the student to deal with ethical issues from a Biblical mind-set. + The Christian Work Ethic The early church viewed all vocations as 'callings' and that all work was sacred before God. This work ethic, which was also an important factor in the beginning of our nation, has been lost. We will explore what Scripture has to say about this subject and how we ought view our work before God. + Why We Think The Way We Think
This will examine the roots of modern Philosophy and its significance to how it has affected our thought process today. We will identify philosophies that are antithetical to how the Christian is to think. + Economics From a Christian Worldview
The Christian should have a biblical understanding of economics. There is a Christian view of economics which is far more encompassing than the concept of handling of money. We will search out the fundamental principles of economics in this study. + The Arts and Christianity
Many of the reformers held that art was to be redeemed while many believed that art was to be totally done away with. Does art have a place and should the Christian be involved with art? We will explore the place of the arts in the Christian worldview. + The Christian View of Law
Christianity has a view point of Law that is not shared by any other worldview. These differences are important in how we view such things as justice. We will explore these differences and how they affect us as a society. + The Christian View of Nature and The Environment
Is ecology a topic for the Christian to be concerned with? Does the Christian have a responsibility to the environment? We will look into this topic from a biblical perspective. + The Christian in Society
What is the Christian's role in society? Is the Church to be involved in social issues? Over the centuries the Church has taken extremes on both sides of the spectrum. We will look at those positions and compare them to the light of scripture. + The Christian View of Science
To some, science has become an enemy to the Christian faith. Historically, however, this has not always been the case. How ought the Christian address science today? Film and culture Film has a significant role in our culture. We will look at the various aspects of films - the art, the literature, and the significance of film to our culture. |
